Space in the workplace.
Unwanted sexual/physical contact is prevalent in McDonald's kitchens. The knee jerk response is for more, and better, staff training; Inculcate a sense of respect for other people's physical boundaries. However, this glosses over what seems to be quite obvious: lots of people working in a very tight space. People in McDonald's have to move between counters constantly. Tripping over one another regularly. Some will of course use this to their advantage with deliberate actions. Others will bump into one another accidentally. There will be endless near misses every few minutes.
The solution is simple. Make the kitchen area bigger. This may impact the area allocated for customers. However, it will solve the problem.
We get accustomed to how things are. We get used to the layout of a workplace. We are unable at times to step back and view the internal layout of a room with a fresh perspective. Managers/owners have become accustomed to how their office, bar, restaurant has been laid out. They are used to the placing of the furniture. They don't recognise the problem or don't see it as a major issue.
I was in a bar one evening and sensed trouble. I noticed that a raised table was 'in the way'. This high table blocked and disrupted the flow of people. It caused congestion. It was bound to cause tensions. People would knock into one another to get past. People, take offence when barged and drinks are spilt. Soon enough a fight broke out. The presence of this table may not have been the sole reason for that fight, but I bet it didn't help matters.
If you have a business, look at people flow. See if you can make adjustments that reduce the likelihood of people knocking into one another. Better flow, better atmosphere.
There are regular events where vast numbers of religious people gather. The tight space, people crammed tightly together, enable sexual deviancy on a grand scale. Lust, an opportunity to grope, cancels out the pretence of piety.
A book about us; our lives.
Not the most insightful book in the world, but the most insightful book in the universe.
