The royal family is anachronistic.

The royal family is an anachronism. Not of our time.
Using a mobile phone in a film set in the time of Robin Hood would be an anachronistic film blunder.
Having a royal family particularly a hereditary royal family system in 2025 is anachronistic.
Rather than sweep away the royal family we could simply sweep aside the hereditary aspect.
We could elect a king / queen. However, that could end up providing a podium for a political figure. I certainly would not want a celebrity of sorts being given the spot either.
We could have a lottery instead.
Any British citizen could put their name in the hat. The winner would reign for 10 years. They would shadow the present king / queen for three years prior, to learn the job so to speak.
The monarch has a role to play in British life. They have a multitude of duties and responsibilities. Sweeping the whole thing aside would not be cricket. We can keep the good aspects and remove the entitlement feature.
