meaning word

Words are losing their meaning - they have less impact.

The term far right is being used with wanton abandon without any consideration for what far right implies.

Nazism: the far right totalitarian ideology practiced by leaders in Germany during the Second World War era. Practices including but not limited to; Sterilisation of black people.

Eradication of disabled people and those with congenital defects.

Eradication of Gypsies, Jews and vagrants.

Sending any uncooperative unemployed people to the gulag.

Some people will advocate these things. Those that do, would be considered to be far right. However, the vast majority that we label as far right would find these practices abhorrent. Raising a concern regarding immigration would not make someone far right, yet that is the label they are given, incorrectly given. The far right term has lost its meaning in 2025.

Twisted and toxic.

Is this someone that sends a series of text messages that are accusatory, unwelcome, argumentative perhaps. Or someone with major mental issues, someone that would boil your pet on the stove to get back at you. A twisted person ought to imply someone that does devilish things, bad actions. Toxic is someone that has a personality disorder, an extreme disorder. Toxic individuals do exist, but in small numbers. However, toxic now describes someone that has a trait that is closer to an 'ick' rather than someone that tries to you lead you down a dark path.

Heavy language is being used, far too often, in place of moderate appropriate language. I see a number of problems with this. A Tower of Babel of sorts is emerging. No one understanding one another not because they each use a different language but because they use the same language quite differently. The 2020's will be regarded as an epoch of extreme language. Knowing that will be important in the future when we read things that were written during this time. Future historians and researchers will need to consider our propensity for using heavy strong language during this period to make sense of it.

Can we blame the rise in personal media - 'social' media aka individuals making content. The mainstream media had the monopoly in regards getting the attention of the masses. Now every Tom, Dick and Harry is making themselves heard in the best way they can. Use of extreme language appears necessarily to garner attention. However, the mainstream media are plying their trade with extreme language too, to garner attention.

Market forces prevail. The 'language market' will find a new balance at some point. I say market forces will prevail as no amount of educating people on this subject will change the language they utilise. We become accustomed to using certain language in certain situations and habits form. Habits that are hard to change.
